SUBMISSIONS FAQ

May I submit a play which I submitted before (but wasn't selected)?
Absolutely! We recommend that you get feedback on your script, revise and polish, so that your submission is as strong as possible. We have produced plays at 10x10 which were previously submitted, then revised and improved, and ultimately chosen by jurors. Keep writing!

How do I start page numbering in my script AFTER the cover page, character page, and teaser?
Check out this NIFTY TUTORIAL! How to start page numbering later in your document (for Windows). Tutorial here!

I feel silly asking, but how do people usually tell how long their play is when they're writing it? Just by reading it out loud? Is there a rough word count for ten minutes? How strict is the time limit?
The time limit is quite strict once the play reaches production. Before then, it is challenging to gauge the running time of a script based on the text and stage directions alone. We recommend reading your script aloud on your feet, including time for all necessary actions, and also asking other people to read it for you. If your script is written in standard script format (guidelines here), then the timing will be roughly 90 seconds per page. There is a 7-page limit for submissions.

Do you accept submissions from playwrights who don’t live in Thunder Bay?
Submissions are limited to writers who live in Northwestern Ontario, so that you may participate in development activities held in Thunder Bay.

I am a high school student. May I submit a script?
Yes, students under 18 may submit a script to 10x10. A parent or legal guardian must provide a signature of consent on the student submission form.

Can more than one author collaborate on one project?
Yes, collaborative scripts created by two or more writers are acceptable, as long as all playwrights complete a submission form and agree to participate in all development activities.

Can a playwright submit both a collaboration and an individual entry?
Yes, a playwright who submits  a collaborative script may also submit a separate entry as an individual.

Does submitting a script for 10x10 exclude me from the opportunity to act in one of the successful plays? Or can I do both?
Selected playwrights may not direct or act in other people's plays, so that they will be able to give their full attention to the play development process. However you may act if your script is not selected for the showcase. Script selections will be announced in February and auditions happen in March.
